Meet the Kittens!
Kitty Love - Kitten Meow
[info]firesplace
We're on day four now, and doing well! The kittens all gained weight between yesterday and today, so we've just got to keep that up. We're almost out of the perscription diet the vet gave us, so we picked up some kitten food at the store today. We're still mixing it with formula, but should soon be able to move to canned entirely.
The little things are hitting a lot of milestones, too - getting more coordinated, starting to do big-cat things like grooming themselves (ineffectively, but they try), and even (WOOT) using the litterbox! We still have to intervene for now and they don't always get the box, but they're learning. =)

So, wanna meet the family?

Black Boy Black Boy
One of the first two rescued, this is the explorer of the lot. He's been the most independent, OK with being handled but much prefering to climb over everything and check out the big wide world.
Gray Boy Gray Boy
This fellow came from the second round of rescuing. He's the mellow one, and probably the snuggliest. He's been the first to truly seek out petting, and prefers curling up and getting petted to rough-and-tumble with his siblings. Somewhat to our surprise, he's also the biggest right now. He seems to have some personality traits in common with our Calcifer.
The Girl The Girl
She's god an odd expression in this pic. ;) While she's not quite as adventuresome as her dark brother, she's still a pretty outgoing girl. She's the most developed of the kittens, with ears pretty well fully opened. In body type and personality, she's a bit like Trevor. She'll probably be a beautiful and sleek kitty when she grows up!
The Runt The Runt
Excuse the dirty face in the pic! The baby of the bunch, our little runt is the most roly-poly of them all. He's kind of the peacemaker in the lot, and seems to have a lot in common with Nicholas' "play with me!" personality.

It's getting a little old to refer to "the gray male", "the girl", etc., so we're considering names. Chances are that whoever gets adopted out will have their name changed, but that's OK!
I've been bouncing themed names back and forth with Kiefer today, and we're tending towards some of the following:

Coffee names (black male, big gray, female, gray runt):
Macchiato, Venti, Via or Latte, and Breve

Chrono Trigger:
Gaspar, Spekkio or Cyrus, Schala, Glenn

Final Fantasy 4:
Kain, Edward, Rydia, Edge

Also tossing around drink names (Squirt, Sprite, Tab/itha, etc.), explorers and philosophers (Magellan, Aristotle, Socrates, Newton, etc.), and more. Right now, I think we've been leaning towards the Chrono names, but we'll see. Got any suggestions?

I vote Chrono trigger names! Spekkio is a really super cute name for one of the little mites. =)

Isn't it?? I love the name Cyrus, but it's such a serious name for an already rather mellow kitty. He needs a spunky and cute name to bring out that side of his personality!

Wait... two boys, a girl, and a runt?

Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad.

I third it! :)

If not this I vote for Coffee names.

It's a perfect combination!! XD XD
I love all except Toad - it's the right name to pick for the combination, but I'd have a hard time calling one of the little hairballs "Toad", yanno? ;)

Last night, I mentioned the nimonations to Kristy. Her response?

"Or possibly Fox, Falco, Slippy/Peppy, and Kyistal."

Such geekery here, really....

You could call him Kinopio (Japanese name for toad) or how about Yoshi? :D

OOOH, why didn't I think of Yoshi? That could work!
Or even Goomba. XD

OUYGT(BO#%*YRT)N@*F^GBIU@%R#@%^#^TFGEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...

*(&^%$#@%^%#@!!!!!!!!!!!!

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3!!!!!!!!

I second this as well!!

If J lets you take one of these home, you are the luckiest girl in the world... other than Fire, that is, who gets to hold them right now. XD

I think he's starting to expecting it. Maybe not HOLYSHITTHRILLED, but I don't think he'd be vehemently against it either. It's just me actually asking outright...

*grins!* I give him about ten seconds with these little guys before he folds like a bad lawn chair. XD

I think he knows that better than anyone. XD Everytime I go kitty-window shopping at PAWS he never comes in with me because it'll make him want to take all of them home.

Not that it's not worth it, but I have to say the 8,000,000 loads of laundry, endless bags of soiled paper towels and Q-tips, vet bills, and hours spent coaxing them to eat does detract from the luck a bit. =3
Still...There is NOTHING like watching a whole litter of fat, clean, happy, healthy kittens wrestling uncoordinatedly with each other. There's so much cute in here right now, it should be illegal. <3 <3 <3

*grins!* Yup, that's the black boy caught in mid-meow! I don't think he realizes yet how completely adorable he is. =3

I used names from fiction for two of ours that I named, "Honor" - after David Weber's leading character, Honor Harrington - and "Tia" - short for "Hypatia" from a novel by Mercedes Lackey and Anne McCaffrey, as well as the Librarian who tried to save the ALexandrian Library when it was ordered destroyed. The other one was an obvious one, that little lady is white with black spots and one spot covers one eye while the other is surrounded by white fur like a harlequin's mask, hence her name of "Harlequin", usually shortened to "Harlie".

I'd say go with what feels/sounds good to you, though I like the coffee-inspired ones.

Lackey books are a great inspiration for pet names!! My first cat was Skandrannon, after the Black Gryphon. The previous owner actually came up with the name, and it suited him to a T. He was very much like the character.

Actually, the Lackey/McCaffrey book was a follow-on ot Anne's "Ship Who Sang" and was quite a good read in its own right.

Oh, man, I like the Mario Bros. idea! Trying to come up with a foursome that's 3 guys and a girl is hard!

Howabout Alvin, Simon, Theodore, and...I dunno, who were the Chipettes? *Googles it* Brittany, Jeanette, or Eleanor =p Hee, Eleanor is such a cute kitty name -- little Ellie!

John, Paul, George (or Ringo) and Penny Lane? Or Lucy in the Sky? ;) Or Deaaar Prudence?

Ooooh, I do like the Beatles ones! That's awesome! =D

I always use cartoon character names. I try to stick to Disney or Warner characters. But with the last one, Flapjack just kinda happened. However, Flapjack is a cartoon character, so I guess that is alright. hehe

I love that big grey fella. <3

If there were only 2 boys, you can bet they'd end up as Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. XD
The big grey is a total sweetheart! Definitely the most laid-back of the whole bunch!

Warcraft alert!
Thrall, Chairne, Vol'jin, and Sylvanis (Sylvy for short)
